Ted's Eagle Scouts

The Scoutmaster of Troop 204 is Ted M. Vinson.  Scoutmaster Vinson brings many years of experience to Troop 204.  Ted, as he prefers to be called, has been involved in the Scouting program since he joined Cub Scouts.  He grew up in Troop 7 in Macon, Georgia.  Progressing through the ranks of Boy Scouting, Ted earned the Eagle rank.  He then added five palms to be worn on his Eagle badge.  Ted was elected to the Order of the Arrow as a member of Troop 7, and then was awarded the Vigil honor, the highest honor of the organization.

At the age of eighteen, Ted became an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 7.  After graduating from Willingham High School, Ted attended Southern Tech in Marietta, majoring in mechanical and electrical engineering.  It was while attending Southern Tech that Ted became involved in Troop 144, sponsored by the Marietta First Baptist Church.  Ted maintained his membership while serving in the Army in Vietnam.  After returning in 1972, he married Donna Booth. On April 1, 1974, he took over the position of Scoutmaster of Troop 144.

Over the years, Ted has served both the Cobb District and the Atlanta Area Council while being a Scoutmaster.  He served on the Wood Badge training staff thirteen times in several different positions. He earned both the Scouter's Training Award and the Scouter's Key.  In 1979, he was presented the District Award of Merit by the Cobb District.  In 1981, he was presented the Silver Beaver Award by the Atlanta Area Council.  He has also received the James West award, and Foothills District Lifetime Achievement Award.  Ted has been Camping Chairman for the Cobb District, a member-at-large of the Cobb District, and a staff member for many years at the Scouter's Winter Campout.  This is an annual event held since 1969.  He served as Scoutmaster in 1987 and is a member of a patrol of previous Scoutmasters of the event.  In 1985 and again in 1989, Ted is serving as ASM of an Atlanta Area contingent to the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia.  He is currently serving on the Southern Region Camp Inspection Committee and the Atlanta Area Council Centennial Encampment Committee.

Ted  attended Wood Badge in 1973 and earned his Wood Badge beads in 1974.  He has served  the staff  for 13 previous  Wood Badges courses in various positions including Coach Counselor (2), Assistant Senior Patrol  Leader, Assistant  Scoutmaster, Quartermaster (5), Troop Guide (2), Senior Patrol Leader, and was the Course Director for the Atlanta Area Councilís 2008 Summer Wood Badge Course, course 92-56. He served as the advisor for the 2009 Summer Course and is currently the advisor for the 2010 Summer Course.

Ted served as Scoutmaster of Troop 144 until 1993.  During his 20 years as Scoutmaster there, he spent hundreds of days and nights camping with hundreds of scouts and adults.  From April, 1974 until December of 1992, 35 young men earned the rank of Eagle Scout under Ted's leadership.

In addition to being the Scoutmaster of Troop 144 at Marietta First Baptist Church he began as a church staff member there in 1969 and then became the Director of Maintenance.  In 1989, Ted joined the staff of Roswell Street Baptist Church as the Director of Property Management.  In 2006, Ted joined the staff of Burnt Hickory Baptist Church.  Ted and his wife Donna also enjoy family camping, reading, electronics, crafts, gardening. They have one daughter, Tammy, who is a 2007 graduate of Georgia State University and is currently living in San Francisco.

Beginning in August of 1992, Ted and a group of other adults began to meet and plan to start a Boy Scout Troop at Roswell Street Baptist Church.  On February, 8, 1993 - Scouting's anniversary, Troop 204 was again chartered with the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  Troop 204 was sponsored by Roswell Street from the 1945 until 1963,  At Ted's request, the Atlanta Area Council reactivated Troop 204, again at Roswell Street.  Since February of 1993, 48 young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout while in Troop 204.

On January 1, 2014, the Troop moved to a new home at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church (MAUMC).
