Ted and Donna Vinson, a

The
Scoutmaster of Troop 204 is Ted M. Vinson. Scoutmaster
Vinson brings many years of experience to Troop 204.
Ted, as he prefers to be called, has been involved in the
Scouting program since he joined Cub Scouts. He grew
up in Troop 7 in Macon, Georgia. Progressing through
the ranks of Boy Scouting, Ted earned the Eagle rank.
He then added five palms to be worn on his Eagle badge.
Ted was elected to the Order of the Arrow as a member of
Troop 7, and then was awarded the Vigil honor, the highest
honor of the organization.
At
the age of eighteen, Ted became an Assistant Scoutmaster of
Troop 7. After graduating from Willingham High School,
Ted attended Southern Tech in Marietta, majoring in
mechanical and electrical engineering. It was while
attending Southern Tech that Ted became involved in Troop
144, sponsored by the Marietta First Baptist Church.
Ted maintained his membership while serving in the Army in
Vietnam. After returning in 1972, he married Donna
Booth. On
April 1, 1974, he took over the position of Scoutmaster of
Troop 144.
Over
the years, Ted has served both the Cobb District and the
Atlanta Area Council while being a Scoutmaster. He
served on the Wood Badge training staff thirteen times in
several different positions. He earned both the Scouter's
Training Award and the Scouter's Key. In 1979, he was
presented the District Award of Merit by the Cobb District.
In 1981, he was presented the Silver Beaver Award by the
Atlanta Area Council. He has also received the James
West award, and Foothills District Lifetime Achievement
Award. Ted has been Camping Chairman for the Cobb District, a
member-at-large of the Cobb District, and a staff member for
many years at the Scouter's Winter Campout. This is an
annual event held since 1969. He served as Scoutmaster
in 1987 and is a member of a patrol of previous Scoutmasters
of the event. In 1985 and again in 1989, Ted was
chosen to lead an Atlanta Area contingent of scouts to the
National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia.
He is currently serving on the Southern Region Camp
Inspection Committee.
Ted attended Wood Badge in 1973 and earned his Wood Badge beads
in 1974. He has
served the
staff for 12
previous Wood
Badges courses in various positions including Coach
Counselor (2), Assistant Senior Patrol
Leader, Assistant
Scoutmaster, Quartermaster (5), Troop Guide (2),
Senior Patrol Leader, and was the Course Director for the
Atlanta Area Council’s 2008 Summer Wood Badge Course,
course 92-56.
Ted
served as Scoutmaster of Troop 144 until 1993. During
his 20 years as Scoutmaster there, he spent hundreds of days
and nights camping with hundreds of scouts and adults.
From April, 1974 until December of 1992, 35 young men earned
the rank of Eagle Scout under Ted's leadership.
In
addition to being the Scoutmaster of Troop 144 at Marietta
First Baptist Church he began as a church staff member there
in 1969 and then became the Director of Maintenance.
In 1989, Ted joined the staff of Roswell Street Baptist
Church as the Director of Property Management. In
2006, Ted joined the staff of Burnt Hickory Baptist Church.
Ted and his wife Donna also enjoy family camping,
reading, electronics, crafts, gardening. They have one
daughter, Tammy, who is a 2007 graduate of Georgia State
University and is currently living in Berkeley, California
Beginning
in August of 1992, Ted and a group of other adults began to
meet and plan to start a Boy Scout Troop at Roswell Street
Baptist Church. On February, 8, 1993 - Scouting's
anniversary, Troop 204 was again chartered with the National
Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 204 was
sponsored by Roswell Street from the 1945 until 1963,
At Ted's request, the Atlanta Area Council reactivated Troop
204, again at Roswell Street. Since February of 1993,
24 young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout while in
Troop 204.
Ted
